Alain Cuerrier was named president of the International Society of Ethnobiology at the organization’s 14th Congress, held in Bhutan in June 2014. The week-long event (Chi Nor Zom Bu Ling – One earth for all: Regenerating biocultural ecosystem resilience) was attended by 480 participants from more than 35 countries. The society has over 800 members around the world. A member for more than ten years, Alain Cuerrier mentored young ethnobiologists in 2012 and 2014. The society grants bursaries, creates global-scale initiatives and has developed a code of ethics that has been adopted by several other societies. The society’s Congress is held every two years, and the 15th will take place in Uganda in 2016.
